Solo Retreat @ Bach Brook
From the first moment we arrived, we knew this to be a beautiful, healing place. It feels important to share everything this land offers, which is why we've created this individual retreat experience.
From one-to-one therapeutic coaching, creative reflective practices and cacao ceremonies to journaling, meditation, yoga nidra and walking in the beautiful land around us, this retreat is shaped around you.
And if all you want to do is sleep and gaze at the view, that's ok too.
Each path offers something unique.
“How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward.”
Spanish Proverb
If you've been carrying a lot, resisting rest and pushing on through, this could be the path that calls to you - perhaps other's needs have been taking priority and now it's time to pay yourself some attention. Or maybe you're looking for a quiet space for fresh creative inspiration.
A self-guided approach with the added benefits of being deep cared for. The perfect choice if you're a writer or artist wishing to focus, free from distractions of the outside world.
Wake when you wake. Listen to your body and allow yourself to sleep as much as you need. Clamber back into bed with a bowl of nutritious breakfast. Gaze out of the window at the woods beyond. Read. Journal. Sleep some more. Enjoy lunch on your private deck or snug in your retreat space - all prepared lovingly for you; dishes gathered up when you're ready. There's nothing that needs to be done. Be outside, perhaps. Maybe sleep again awhile. Meditate. Drink tea. Journal some more. Settle into the evening as dinner is brought to you. Nourishing and delicious. Sleep.
You are also welcome to book additional sessions with Henny - making your time here fully intentional and supporting your return to the outer world.
"Listening to the birds each morning. Seeing the hedgehogs(!) and knowing there was nothing I had to do. It's honestly priceless."
"Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom."
Lao Tzu
You've already gathered self-knowledge and it's time to reflect; to consolidate what you know. You're ready to see where the threads are connecting, to understand the new insight you can gather. You're embracing the art of self-compassion as a practice and wish to bring it even more deeply into your way of life.
This aligns well with the Flow programme. For example, have a coaching session before you arrive, another after your visit and the rest while you are here.
Your day could begin with an early morning mindfulness practice, followed by journaling to a personalised prompt. Enjoy a spacious morning after breakfast in your retreat space, perhaps followed by an immersive walk to the river or through the hills. Lunch when you're ready, relaxing into your own company as you reflect on the intention you set for your stay. Spend time with Henny in the afternoon, to reflect on what's arisen for you and explore whatever themes are most useful for you. Close your day with a delicious dinner prepared for you, before enjoying a peaceful night's sleep.
Book your sessions with Henny and explore powerful reflective practices to help you make the most of your time; bringing a fresh perspective to what serves you.
"This place really is magical. I didn't quite know what I was coming to, but I'm so glad I did!"
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined."
Henry David Thoreau
You sense it is time to reconnect with your true nature. Your head has been in charge and now it's time to listen to the rest of your wise and loving being. You want to spend time in deep inner work, releasing old patterns, beliefs and stories, stepping into the fullness of your whole Self.
This can be a wonderful companion to the DEEPEN programme. For example, have a coaching session or two before you arrive plus session(s) after your visit and the rest while you are here.
Open your day with a mindfulness practice with Henny, perhaps taking a dawn walk, followed by a journaling prompt to ground you. After breakfast, we'll begin exploring what's calling you. Expanding your awareness of blockers and barriers that could be limiting you, building new strategies to support you in moving forward. Lunch is restful - everything in balance - with time for private reflection before working once more with Henny; maybe drinking cacao to create a ceremony of reconnection or experiencing deep relaxation with a yoga nidra. As evening falls and your dinner is prepared for you, you'll watch the stars come out, nourished inside and out.
You'll work closely with Henny from your arrival to the close of your stay. Accompanied and guided as needed, woven with time for deep rest and self reflection.
"Taking this time for me felt wrong somehow. I had to make myself get in the car. But now I just want to come again. It's been wonderful."

Your space
We call it the summer house.
A space of lightness and light, whatever the season.
Looking out over the valley, up to the woods beyond... a completely private space, tucked safely in a corner of our land.
Natural linen sheets cover a bed you'll want to clamber into. Generous cushions are scattered in the perfect meditation station. A soft loveseat provides another beautiful spot for resting and reflecting and snoozing.
Your ensuite bathroom includes organic toiletries and a clever compost loo; supporting our aim to sit lightly in this land.
In the warmer months, you can even enjoy the beautiful view from our outdoor shower and when nights are cooler, settle by the fire bowl on the deck.
This is a space dedicated to rest.
Your retreat
Arriving around mid-day on the Tuesday you'll settle into your private retreat space, safe in the knowledge that everything will be cared for. You'll be supported in grounding your intentions for your time here, so you're ready for what your heart desires.
Over the four days and three nights of your solo retreat, you'll explore what arises for you, held safe in this space, nourished by delicious food and bathed in nature. You'll listen to your own needs and practice the art of self-compassion in how you respond. Free from the distractions of daily life.
It may be you'd love a whole day of silence, or a complete digital detox or perhaps you'd love journaling prompts created just for you each morning. Whatever it is, if it's possible we'll help make it happen.
On the Friday we'll take care to close your visit in the way that's best for you, integrating your insights, as you gently ease back into the outside world.
The food
Anton is a wonderful cook and we'll bring all your meals to you.
Everything is vegetarian and gluten-free with no refined sugar. Food is free from cow-dairy, though we do use eggs and sheep/goats cheese. Where possible, we'll use fruits and vegetables from our land.
Before you arrive, we'll check with you on any food preferences and you can always ask to see a sample menu.
There are drinks and nibbles in the retreat house for you too, with plenty to keep you feeling replenished during your stay.
Your hosts
Henny is a Professionally Certified Coach (PCC), a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), with a degree in Sociology (with Psychology), a Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Personal Coaching and a Diploma in ImageWork therapy. Her background includes a long corporate career (in the UK & overseas). Following a time of low self-care, high stress and grief, she experienced a critical illness that led to a slow but profound wake up call. Little in her life remains the same. Her personal experience of deep and lasting change and specialist training informs her work as a therapeutic coach, writer, podcaster and retreat host.
After completing his degree in Philosophy, Anton worked as an English teacher overseas and in publishing before running his own copywriting business. Having always been very fit - with three marathons and several triathlons under his belt - being diagnosed with a heart condition in his 30s was a significant challenge. In response, he trained as a specialist heart rehabilitation (BACPR) Personal Trainer and can provide specialist guidance for guests looking to build their fitness levels. Anton is also a wonderful cook and prepares the nutritious food for all retreat guests.
They met at university, have one son and a dog, Ronnie.
The farm
Bach Brook Farm is our home. Three acres of meadow, edged by a little brook, on the side of a valley, bordering England and Wales.
We are surrounded by an amphitheatre of trees including a stretch of ancient protected woodland. It's been here at least 400 years; as old as our home. The River Lugg runs through the valley and is a beautiful walk away.
We're in the deepest wilds of Herefordshire, close to the Welsh and Shropshire borders.
This land was worked (with several rare breeds) before we arrived and we are slowly returning it to its natural state.
Situated between two working farms, our animals now consist of wild pheasants, rabbits, hedgehogs and our lovely dog, Ronnie, who is very likely to want to say hello.
We're tucked down a single track road miles from anywhere, in the centre of everything.
This land
It feels almost impossible to fully describe this place. There are many books about the Marches, describing how this area conjures a sense of the lost wild and forgotten freedom.
For us, this land is magic. Pure and simple.
From the woman who slept all night in a hammock and watched the hedgehogs greet each other at dawn, to the guest who was surrounded by butterflies, just as she was understanding her own transformation. Each person who comes has their own unique experience; finds their own perfect blend.
If you love wild swimming, the river is near. If you love long walks, the hills are close. If you love peace and quiet, the roads are far. And there is even a swing if your inner child loves to play.
Whether the weather is wet, wild or warm (and it can be all three in one day), there is beauty all around.
Bring wellies (whatever the season), and the comfiest clothes you own for the deepest relaxation.
The guests
The nature of this retreat is individual care and a personal journey along whichever path you choose. And so, we only ever have one guest here at a time... unless you wish to bring a friend or partner.
The retreat house has a big comfy double-bed with plenty of room for two. So if you're happy sharing, you're both very welcome to be here.
Our priority is ensuring you get what you most desire from your time here.
So, if one of you really wants to do deep inner Work, and the other needs deep rest or wants to go off on guided bike rides with Anton, that's wonderful, as long as you're both ok with balancing each others' needs with your own.
Speak with Henny when you have your initial call and we can see what would be the perfect balance for you both, while you're here.
To book
To get the most from your time here, and for deep relaxation, we recommend you stay for a minimum of two nights - ideally three.
Arriving Tuesday morning, leaving Friday afternoon, you'll get the maximum benefit of four restorative days in your own private retreat house.
As each visit here is unique, please contact us for costs and availability.
If you're already in a coaching programme with Henny, this solo retreat is a wonderful opportunity to work in person.

"Thank you. I honestly don't know what else to say. Thank you. With every ounce of my being. Thank you."
"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies the power and freedom to choose our response. And in our response lies our growth and happiness."
